Our Impressions:
We were back in Fire Island! This time, we were doing a bike trip, rather than a hike and we were seeing it in the beautiful summer weather. September is the perfect time to visit as it is after the summer season crowds leave but the days are still beautiful. Bikes must be walked in many areas where there is no boardwalk. These sandy areas would be much easier navigated on mountain bikes.
We were shocked by the friendly deer who came so close to us that they could be mistaken for domestic animals. Towards the end of our tiring 30 mile bike ride, we stopped at the sound side of the island and took a dip in the warm ocean. What a lovely biking adventure!
